ThirdRails for Train Sim World Users

With the growing excitement around the possibility of an official Train Sim World (TSW) API, we’re thrilled to introduce ThirdRails for TSW! While ThirdRails was originally built for Train Simulator Classic (TSC), we’ve begun adapting it for TSW in anticipation of future developments. Although a real-time tracking API isn’t available yet, there are still several fun and immersive ways to enjoy ThirdRails with Train Sim World 5.

Known issue: ThirdRails will ask for Train Simulator Rail Driver at startup. You can ignore this if TSC is not installed on your system.
Simply click Cancel in the diaglog. We are working to streamline the startup with TSW in mind.

What You Can Do with ThirdRails in TSW:

1. Run Timetables in TSW

Forget about the TSW HUD and immerse yourself in a realistic timetable experience using ThirdRails' own HUD. By pressing F1 to hide the TSW HUD, you can enjoy a more authentic feel, executing your timetable through ThirdRails. As an added bonus, ThirdRails provides timetable-driven announcements to enhance the atmosphere.
Tip: Use this on TSW Timetable mode (with matching Timetable) or Freeroam.

You can use your own hand crafted timetables, or use reallive real-timetables.
Real-Time Timetables: Import live schedules through services like RealTime Trains (UK) or DB (Rest of Europe). Drive in sync with real-world timetables or run them at your own pace!

Note: The instructions are based on the Train Simulator Classic version, but they work just as well in TSW.

2. View Yourself on the Multiplayer Map

You might be wondering—how can you appear on the multiplayer map if there’s no API for TSW? While it’s true that real-time data isn’t available yet, we’ve implemented a clever workaround using the "Calling At" station data from your timetable.

As you drive a timetable (see point 1), you’ll be able to track your position as you move from station to station on the Multiplayer Radar. Although this is a station-based "hop," you’ll still be able to interact with other drivers via the radar chat or Steam Chat. Plus, with OpenRailwayMap integration, you can better visualize your route and enhance your understanding of the area you’re driving through. You’ll be part of the multiplayer fun in no time!

3. Access Real-Time Information with the Live Browser

While driving, you can access live data from real-world services if you’re on a Real Drive. You can get information about train formations, schedules, and more—all in real-time! Need to consult a manual? You can also load PDF documents directly into the in-game PDF viewer for quick reference during your drive.

It is recommended to use Train Sim World with Windows Mode: Windowed-Fullscreen so that ThirdRails can be on top of TSW.

While we’re still eagerly awaiting an official API for TSW, ThirdRails already provides exciting ways to expand your Train Sim World experience. Enjoy timetabled runs, multiplayer map integration, and live service data—all in one package!
